My wife’s month long 50th birthday festival concluded last night with a visit to a local Italian Restaurant (http://www.lacasaristorante.com.au/) with some good friends. We got through a bit of wine and thoroughly enjoyed the night.

NV Moet & Chandon Brut Imperial Champagne

NV Moet & Chandon Brut Imperial Champagne

We started with my favourite champagne, NV Moet & Chandon Imperial. Most places now you can pick this up for less than $50 a bottle and at that price it represents great value and it always gets a party off to a great start. It normally starts with a pop, then people comment “Oh, we’re drinking Moet” then the discussion turns to the correct pronunciatin of Moet (which is with a pronounced “T”, not mow-ay) then conversation turns to the topics of the day.

I love the fine bead, the yeasty flavours and the balanced approach which makes this the perfect pre-dinner drink with enough substance to accompany some nibblies. There’s a creaminess and mouthfeel to NV Moet & Chandon Brut Imperial Champagne that you don’t get with the more acidic styles (Veuve Clicquot, Bollinger etc) Perhaps Moet would describe this creaminess as brioche with rich butter.

Either way it was the perfect start to a great night.
